Trek Fighter II is a simulated battle between the starship Enterprise and a Borg cube that takes place during the course of the Trekma game. While an obvious homage to Street Fighter II, it combined other genres as well, including two-dimensional shooters of the classic Defender line, and the modern minigame.
Gameplay[edit]
The lack of a health bar was either the result of inadequate programming or an uncompromising innovation that predated the likes of even Bushido Blade by years.
Rapid-response directional keys alleviate the need to learn astrogation, and auto-aiming, also ahead of its time, is handled by complex AI subroutines simulating Starfleet cadet-level tactics.
Characters[edit]
- Enterprise—flagship of the Federation, armed to the teeth with phasers and a crew willing to fight until the end for the freedom of all sentient beings. In keeping with Street Fighter II tradition, only the Enterprise is playable, which calls for speculation that a "Super" sequel would add the Borg to the roster.
- Borg—soulless scourge of the galaxy. Their tractor beams can halt any prey in their tracks; their cutting beams then dissect it for assimilation. Could such an overwhelming presence have a hidden weakness that would permit a subspace command to shut it down?
