Trekma Troubleshooting PROBLEM SOLUTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- No sound Check speaker and sound card volume Make sure you have a SoundBlaster-compatible sound card Free conventional memory (try unloading mouse driver) Start computer without CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT (press F5 when it says "Starting MS-DOS) & *see below ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annoying delay *See below before sounds ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game crashes or Don't use EMS reboots computer Say "euff" and play Doom ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer makes Get scared and say "EH?" repeatedly suhghun-bahngu sounds ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seuru-ze...THUNK! Buy a new computer ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- * In the beginning, VOCPLAY.EXE, the program used to play the .VOC files in Trekma, is a copy of PLAYER.COM, which is slow but doesn't use drivers so it works with most SoundBlaster-compatible sound cards. If you have a SoundBlaster/Pro/16, then you can use VPLAY221.EXE for "old" SB cards and VPLAY310.EXE for "new" SB cards. Also, you can use PLANY.EXE, which works without drivers, but you must SET the BLASTER environment variable to the right settings for your sound card, or else the VOCs might be cut off and you'll have to press a key after each one. To use one of the other .VOC players for Trekma: COPY [filename] VOCPLAY.EXE where [filename] is VPLAY310.EXE, VPLAY221.EXE, or PLANY.EXE Instead of starting by typing TREKMA, type PATCH. Whenever you are using a .VOC player other than PLAYER.COM, you gotta type PATCH. When you're sure everything works, you can rename PATCH.EXE to TREKMA.EXE because typing PATCH is lame. To change it back to using PLAYER.COM, type COPY PLAYER.COM VOCPLAY.EXE and use the original TREKMA.EXE file. If you use PLANY.EXE, you can boot-up without AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, and just type SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 (substitute your sound card's values for the port, IRQ, and DMA) before running Trekma. To skip the intro and go right to the game, type TREKMA POWER. BEGINNER'S WALKTHROUGH (Warning! These hints don't give away shit! Read this if you suck.) 1. Get the tricorder. 2. Exit to the south. 3. Travel east and then north through the corridor to the bridge. 4. Talk to Data. Try dialogue path 1423142234. 5. QuickTricord Data. 6. Talk to Riker and Troi. 7.
