Jailbreaking with Spirit was easy as pie, PdaNet worked so well I bought a license, but I just had to be greedy and try Martin’s Chinese solution to install api’s. Cookies in apps no longer saving—and no, the permission fix didn’t help—and some even stopped working altogether. So yeah, full restore with an old backup. (If I were more daring, I’d have tried the firmware downgrade at the time, because I’ll have to, eventually.) Next day I get back on the Itchy and Scratchy Land log ride for Marcelo’s cracked TV player to watch the World Cup. Sucks when you’re not satisfied with Steve Jobs’ vision of the world for everyone.

Probably ought to choose my words carefully this time, lest I eat my hat again and upgrade, but as much as the new design harks back to my T610, I’ve learned my lesson about two-year contracts amidst product cycles half that (and how they’re even worse if you sign up like I did, six months into one). Plus, jailbreaking has brought new purpose back to my antiquated 3G—to squeeze as much tethering bandwidth out of AT&T before I ditch them come January. In this sense at least, the phone’s only as good as the carrier, and their new plan, which actually lowers the monthly cap while adding an extra $20 to the bill, sounds to me like a step or two backwards. Gimme another Pearl.

Electricity went out, quite dramatically, while I was watching the final episode of Life on Mars last night and stayed off for longer than what folks in this comfortable neighborhood surely must be used to. Even if I could continue on a laptop, there was no getting the disc out of the player. So I took a walk to see how far the darkness went, but turned back when I didn’t see a single family outside, and thought maybe I might be gunned down by one of these fucking McCain supporters with their AK aimed at the door.
Edison’s website didn’t acknowledge the outage for at least an hour—

I moved the number a Chinese restaurant once offered me a thousand dollars for when I called in an order and got the owner to that Pink 8110 (seriously, no one seems able to do the Henna print justice) for 老婆 to use, but she doesn’t have the sentimental attachment to the Pearl I do …only the majority of the thousand e-mails I sent to you during our courtship came from one! Well, I’ve offered her the “GY” iPhone instead—though I’m so totally reneging if I find this case:

Only me. My hoodie’s pockets aren’t very deep, and can’t be relied upon for the securest support of their contents, but as it’s become my trademark garment lately (much as my surplus store pea coat was in my senior year of high school), I’ve taken to removing it only in the two places you’d expect a cartoon character to divest—the shower and the marriage bed, as the zipper might disfigure 老婆—and the tight office bathroom stalls are certainly no exception. The likely result of the combination of these factors is, of course, an aquatic disaster the kind which struck me this afternoon and may have been worse if not for the intervention of two more coincidences: that I had just finished reading up on the latest in Apps on the iPhone and returned it, instinctively with firmer placement, into the opposite side, loosening the BlackBerry’s position; and my meal-and-a-half at Chipotle had produced such a stink that I re-flushed to respect the afternoon traffic and the water was fresh. Not that it even crossed my mind as I plunged my hand in for the rescue and rested the wet case on my lap as I swabbed off every accessible surface with all the paper off the roll. There wasn’t any power loss, at least until I pulled the battery, and although the red X’s on its moisture-indicating sticker do seem to have bled slightly, thank goodness for the excuse that rainy season makes. And an abundant supply of extras from downsizing.

It only just struck me that the once-generic term “app” has all but been brilliantly budded by Apple. (They could just as easily have gone with “applet”, but this was better. I suggest Palm go with “pals”, and not “alms”.) Say what you will about the propriety of this concept, I’m only disappointed that they didn’t take it further and make the squeezing less target practice and requiring a more refined, direction-based, tilt-based touch. Hell, I could expand it into a freakin’ RPG.

Not my first podcast, but I never had the inclination (or space) to listen to them outside of iTunes. I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Fry’s quest for «plaisir du texte»—there’s been nothing more satisfying than assembling mes mots as to be justes, and how I’ve been determining that over the years, let’s just say all along I’ve been heeding some aesthetic or other—but please, don’t try and convince me 14,528 misspellings of the word “you’re” exhibits any craft whatsoever, nor that writers like this couldn’t do without pedantic discipline:
Hello I Watched All The Original star trek and next generation and deep space nine and voyager series. And i Think When You Start The Game You Should Start At The Bottom And Work Your way Up To Captain Meaning Getting Into Star Fleet Or Getting Into The Klingon Allience Or Becoming a Ferengi Captain. Then Have Different Classes Like Medical Field Or Enginerer Or Artifical Intellegence Or Trader. Then I WOuld Have it So You Could Get to rank Captain And Build A Ship Or Buy One Or Trade For One Or Be Assigned One.Then You Could Go Explore Planets Or Do Ship Battles. Also Have Quests In It Or Missions To Get You Better Parts Or Better Crew Mates Or Give Access To Privledge Places. If The Game Is Just Going To Be Ship Battleing Not mUch Fun And Gets Bord Real Quick.I,ve Played Everquest when it first Came out for 7 Years Ive also played e.v.e, wow, swg, everquest 2, Lotrol and What ive Learned Over The Years Of Playing Them Is listening To The Public Other Wise You Loose Your Community Like When swg Changed The Game drasticly And they Lost everyone Or Like When They Changed everquest And Made Everyone Very Powerfull With The New Expansions Past Plane Of Power. One might think this app to be my iPhone raison d’être avoir, but really, what’s the difference from just keeping their numbers handy? (That’s assuming they even answer their phones such as during peak times, of course, but then the selling point would be some sort of electronic confirmation that the order was received and ready for pick up. With the parking situation at mine, I’d insist it be curbside, too.) I have yet to confirm whether the options are all there, like extra rice and being able to request more than one kind of salsa at a time. And showing up in person does have added benefits, I’m proof of that.
