(FTP server down, so another post-post.) So I finally got 'round to renting The 40-Year-Old Virgin, geez, after I play FFXI through it in Houston and even fucking buying it for John. Seemed to run on like a Lord of the Rings movie, what with all the extra footage—there was one line about losing it at nine in a deleted scene that made them worth it—but I liked that it did, as if Andy's life doesn't change overnight, you know, like how Captain Kirk managed to bring democracy to a different planet every week after thousands of years of civilization. The Last American Virgin felt that way, too. Well the gags were all there, and for the most part effective, though as close to the subject matter as I am (Cf. also my objections, far greater, to 電車男) I can't help but nitpick: for instance, the convenient psychosexual explanation for his pristine action figure collection, I just don't see it in my peers. If anything, it's a combination of him and his buddies that's the more sensible depiction of human nature, unkempt, disgruntled, and insecure.
