In all my youth I never once made the connection with the Aristide Bruant poster in Mrs. Hogshead’s French class.

House Season Finale

Except, of course, I dreamed it: the gang was caught up in World Cup fever, and Thirteen, with a balloon in her hand hid away into a large labcoat with House himself. After the opening credits, this romantic shocker was amplified when Cuddy uncovered that Chase, too, was part of this tryst. 老婆 and I looked at each other with uncomfortable disbelief. The remainder of the episode was a montage of scenes of House returning to his debilitating ways, sporting a thicker do, horn-rimmed glasses, and delivering an impassioned speech about his recent lack of stimulation, close-ups of OTC medication, then regaining some therapeutic karma by helping a fellow patient back at the loony bin.

The Legend of Chun Li

Has it really been fifteen years since the last execrable movie adaptation of my favorite fighting game? Worse, the Dark Knight (whose greatness I re-watched a day earlier and I can safely attribute to more than the Blu-Ray format) came out the summer before, and the makers still put their names on it. My idea was always to go all out with the ridiculous characters—not too different from the approach Mortal Kombat took, only without any pretense of story whatsoever—opening with a Fight Club-like scene set to the Stones’ “Street Fighting Man”. Or just this:

老婆’s beginning to cave on the name, but even before that a crib skirt on the clearance rack at Target caught my eye with the distinct pattern of X’s, and since it’s been a quest of sorts (like back in the day, when I sought the out-of-print Highlander Laserdisc and found it at a Blockbuster in the Woodlands) to complete the collection.

The big ones on the wall would be awesome.Update (March 4, 2010): guest.relations@target.com to me

Thanks for your patience as I researched your inquiry.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any information on the “X’s” on the wall in the photo you sent to us. This item is not sold anywhere at Target or on Target.com.

Thanks for writing. Your feedback improves our service commitment to you.

Sincerely,
Laura

老婆 explained that JP-idol clone 瑤瑤 chirping this tune was responsible for this epidemic of an expression, but as mixed up as all the languages are to me now, I’m reminded more of 싸-ing (as in 오줌).

Disappointed that the Kobe beef has been replaced by Angus at Sandra Bullock’s, we went for the real thing at Anjin and overheard this version of 그대만 있다면. Could this be the first case of a Japanese remake of a Korean original—other than, of course, the entire menu there? Mmm… カルビクッパ。。。

Here are stories (now with descriptions, in case the links go down) of a dog-owner who also had Homer’s book of Canine Surgery and another—presumably not the same one, although that’d be hilarious—who shot back, on the same day I read this mini-series I somehow missed during my year off. Must’ve dismissed it because I never did finish Watership Down or the Secret of NIMH even earlier in my youth. Critics who nevertheless put it on their best-of-the-decade lists have bemoaned its brevity, lasting about as long as a Chipotle burrito, but I think any more and it would’ve overstayed the premise and diluted its impact. The shrapnel-like scenes of carnage can’t possibly be done justice in other media. Prove me wrong, Ralph Bakshi, prove me wrong!

Can’t see it as well in the thumbnail, but the rebel ship in the background, that’s exactly the kinda shit appearing in my dreams all the time.

Where am I?
